Diagnosis

Diagnosing prediabetes/diabetes is done in three main ways.

-Fasting Glucose Test
-Oral Glucose Tolerance Test
-Random Glucose Test

A Fasting Glucose Test measures your blood sugar levels after you have exceeded a period of 8 hrs without consuming food. This test is very common in detecting diabetes and also prediabetes.

A Oral Glucose Tolerance Test measures your blood sugar levels after you have exceeded a period of 8 hrs without consuming food and also 2 hrs after you drink a glucose-containing beverage. This test is very common in detecting diabetes and also prediabetes.

A Random Glucose Test measures your blood sugar levels regardless as to when you consumed your last food intake. This test is very common in detecting diabetes but NOT prediabetes.

After receiving a positive test result, you should do repeat testing of the fasting glucose test or oral glucose tolerance test on different days to help ensure you are getting correct readings.
