The Indigo Wellness Index has released a new global ranking of countries this year. This list is a ranking of the top healthy and unhealthy countries around the world.
The Indigo Wellness Index was led by Richard Davies and published by LetterOne in the Global Perspectives journal. Global Perspectives is one of the only comprehensive records of its kind. The records include data from 191 countries.
The Indigo Wellness Index used a rating system that they created based on what they consider to be the top 10 measuring points. Using the rating system, countries are ranked from strongest to weakest with one being the weakest and 191 being the strongest country. The ratings show the top unhealthy and healthy countries.
The following 10 measurements are what were used:
- Life expectancy
- Blood pressure
- Blood glucose
- Alcohol use
- Tobacco use
- Government spending on healthcare
A ratio was then calculated to find a score for each country.
Canada was the country to top the chart as the healthiest country out of 191, while Saharan Africa came in at the bottom of the list for 2019. The top five healthiest countries are:
The ranking for some of the countries may be surprising to people. Countries such as Barbados are seen as an ideal vacation location, but their lack of exercise and poor diets put them further down on the list where health is concerned.
The Indigo Wellness Index shows countries in a different light from what people otherwise know. Just because the country is a fun vacation spot does not mean the citizens are healthy. Likewise, the healthiest countries might be a surprise as well.
